Dear Bates,
The snow on Thursday brought a lot of excitement to all of us at school. At Bates we plan to go outside for arrival and recess unless we determine that it’s too wet or the temperature and wind chill are well below 20 degrees. It is important that students come dressed for the snow with waterproof footwear. In order to play in the snow or on the structure, students will also need snow pants and gloves. Thank you for sending students to school prepared for outdoor play.
On Monday the faculty enjoyed a day of professional learning focused on relationships and learning. This was a great extension of the work we are already doing at Bates this year to strengthen our students’ sense of belonging. We know a strong sense of belonging has a direct impact on our students’ ability to achieve at high levels. Thank you to our PTO and WEF for supporting Monday’s learning.
Thank you to families and friends who joined us for Wednesday’s Winter Concert. The Bates band, orchestra and fifth grade chorus gave wonderful performances. Thank you to our band director David Adams, orchestra director Seth MacLeod and our own music teacher and chorus director Riley Granger.
Finally, I’m excited to share that Bates has a new addition to the gym. A climbing wall was installed last week. Below is a picture of the wall, covered in mats. Our students are excited to try it out, and PE teacher Nicole Fyvie is eagerly making plans for it.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Warmly,
Toni
