Dear Bates,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Artstravaganza on Wednesday! It was truly wonderful to see many students confidently showcasing their talents, and even more inspiring to witness the enthusiastic support and appreciation from our community.

I’d like to share another wonderful Bates tradition to add to your calendar in March: Bates in Bloom! This parent drop-in event will take place in every classroom on Wednesday, March 19, from 8:30 to 9:15 am. Families are invited to visit classrooms and admire their child’s work. If you have multiple children at Bates, feel free to bring siblings along to visit one another’s classrooms as well.

As a reminder, we always try to give children the opportunity to play outdoors when the weather allows. Today, I noticed many students at recess without winter boots or snow pants. Since we require at least boots for playing in the snow, these students’ outdoor activity was quite limited. While our town employees and Bates custodians work hard to clear snow from some playground areas, many spots where children love to play remain covered. To ensure your child can fully enjoy recess, please send them with boots and snow pants whenever there’s snow on the ground.

As we begin the February vacation week, I hope you find the time off restorative, especially during this season when illness has affected so many in our community. Wishing you a restful break and quality time with your family.

Warm regards,

Toni Jolley
