Dear Bates,
With today’s beautiful weather and the forecast for the week ahead, it’s the perfect time to celebrate Bates in Bloom this Wednesday! Join us on Wednesday, March 19, from 8:30 – 9:15 am to admire our students’ hard work and growth. Be sure to visit our classrooms and enjoy the incredible student projects. Don’t miss the artwork displayed along the hallway bulletin boards, and make sure to stop by the front entrance to see the kindergarteners’ ceramic bugs proudly showcased in the display case! We look forward to celebrating with you!
Thank You for Attending the PTO Meeting
A big thank you to our school psychologist, Kate Stanley, and school adjustment counselor/social worker, Marisa Cheung, for their insightful presentation to the PTO last week, titled Helping Kids Manage Worry and Anxiety. If you weren’t able to attend, I’ve attached the slides from their presentation below.
At Bates, we continue to prioritize our students’ emotional health. Our classroom teachers implement the Second Step social-emotional curriculum, which includes a unit on emotion management. Additionally, Kate and Marisa collaborate with educators and work directly with students to further enhance their social-emotional skills. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with our families and community to support the well-being of our students. Below, I’ve included information about two upcoming community events that focus on this important topic.
March 18 & 27th: Online Speaker Series Supporting Students’ Mental Health
Wellesley Public Schools and the Wellesley Education Foundation will present two more informative events supporting students’ mental health. New: The March 27 event has been moved online (link below).
On March 18 from 1-2 p.m, WPS families are invited to a lunchtime webinar, Empowering Parents/Caregivers with Strategies for Helping School-Aged Children led by Hart MacDur, Psy.D., and McLean Hospital School Consultation Services. The topic is Introduction to School Avoidance (Link to join)
On March 27 from 6-7 p.m, join us for an online workshop on Distress Tolerance: Supporting Your Child in High Intensity Moments. Yudelki M. Firpo-Perretti, Ph.D. from McLean will share skills for helping children learn to tolerate distress and big feelings without making the situation worse, including a skills coaching protocol for parents to use at home. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead! We look forward to seeing you next week.
Warmly,
