Dear Bates Families,

With less than four weeks of school remaining, it’s natural for students to experience a wide range of emotions.  The final stretch of the year is filled with special events that bring joy, celebration, and excitement.  From the Alphabet Countdown in kindergarten to the three day trip to Hale Reservation in grade 5, students are having new experiences that help them build memories and strengthen relationships.   At the same time, it’s not uncommon for young children to feel a bit of sadness or uncertainty as the school year winds down.  Saying goodbye to teachers, classmates, and familiar routines can be emotional.  In order to support all students, we remain committed to providing the structure and consistency in school that help our students feel grounded and supported during this busy season.  As part of our social emotional learning, we also intentionally create opportunities for students to reflect on their growth and celebrate their accomplishments.  We hope to help all students end the year with a sense of pride and closure.

As you can see from the schedule of upcoming events, there are many wonderful opportunities for families to celebrate with us.  Families are invited to cheer on our students and staff during the first ever Bates Staff vs. Fifth Graders Kickball Game, volunteer during the many fun activities on Field Day, attend the PTO Family Picnic, and take part in the Fifth Grade Clap Out on the last day of school.  We also welcome all families to join us for the Spring Concert, where the Bates band, orchestra, and fifth grade chorus will showcase their talents for our families and school community.

As we begin the long Memorial Day weekend, I hope your family finds time to relax, recharge, and enjoy a well deserved break together.  We also take a moment to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.  Their sacrifice is deeply appreciated.

Warmly,

Toni Jolley
