Dear Bates Families,
This week we gathered in person for our first Community Meeting of the year outside. It was really nice to stand as a school community together in a big circle, sing and share some of our favorite school traditions together. Tux the Penguin, our Bates mascot, even came to say hello!
Covid-19 Testing
Four members of the Army National Guard joined us on Wednesday to lead our Covid-19 surveillance testing. Our students are doing a great job with this new routine. Students participating in the testing can collect their own sample using the shallow nasal swab and return within minutes to class.
STEAM Week
This week the Wellesley Public Schools took part in the MA annual STEM Week. In Wellesley we celebrate STEAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. STEAM week is a statewide effort to boost the interest, awareness and ability for all learners to envision themselves in STEAM education and employment opportunities. Students at Bates and across the district all participated in a cooperative design challenge in their library and art classes this week.
Costume Parade
We will hold our annual all-school costume parade on Friday, October 29 at 8:50 a.m. Students will parade outside around the school with their class twice. Students are asked to come to school dressed for the parade and bring a complete change of clothes to change into after the parade. We invite students who do not wish to be in the parade the opportunity to participate in alternative fun activities in the gym with school faculty members. Please let your child’s teacher know if your child would like to be a part of the fun in the gym instead of walking in the parade.
Parents who wish to watch the parade are invited to stand outside the parade path. Please make every effort to stand clear of the sidewalks where children will be walking. I encourage parents to spread out on all sides of the school. Thank you.
