Dear Bates Families,

We had a wonderful Day of Play yesterday.  Thank you for sending in materials, and thank you to the adults who helped set up and clean up.  Our students were truly amazing, showcasing  their creativity, flexibility, perseverance,  as well as their problem solving and collaboration skills.  We really appreciate your teamwork to make this day so successful for our students.

Bates Office Update

I am very pleased to announce that we have hired Megan LeBlanc for the position of Bates secretary.  We have been so fortunate to have Megan filling in for the past three weeks, and we couldn’t be happier that she is here to stay.  Please join me in warmly welcoming Megan to the Bates community.

Carline Reminder

Winter weather brings many more cars to the car line.  If you or a caregiver are using the car line in the morning, please make sure to pull forward all the way through the bus lane before stopping to unload.  Our buses arrive usually before 8:15, so after that time cars will not interfere with bus arrival.  Please also remember to follow all of our safety precautions:

  • Do not pass other cars who are unloading or waiting in the car line loop

  • Plan your approach

    • Approach the car line from Westgate Road; do not turn left to enter the loop

    • Do not make u-turn at Elmwood & Westgate to enter the car line

STEAM Professionals Needed

Wellesley Public Schools aims to engage STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) professionals from our immediate, and surrounding, communities to enhance teaching and learning in the Wellesley Public Schools.

As a district, our goal is that all students are able to see themselves in STEAM during their careers in our schools, and one of the best ways to do that is for them to interact with STEAM professionals.

What does community engagement look like?

*Serving as a resource for a project based learning (PBL) experience.

*Speaking with a class about your professional experiences.

*Reviewing STEAM content material for a teacher who is creating a new lesson or curriculum.

*Hosting a field trip (in person or virtual) for students to your workplace.

If you are interested in becoming a WPS STEAM Community Expert, please fill out this form to share how you can best serve our community of learners and educators!

Julie Boehm, the WPS K-12 science curriculum specialist, will reach out to you individually once you have completed this form. Please contact her (boehmj@wellesleyps.org) with any questions or concerns.

Vacation Next Week

As a reminder, there is no school next week, February 21- February 25.  The Bates office will be closed.  I hope you enjoy a restful and relaxing vacation!  We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, February 28.

Warmly,

Toni
