Dear HunneBates,
Our students really enjoyed our Book Fair this week. Thank you to our PTO and Bates librarian Liz Rey for all of your hard work to make this a fantastic experience for our students. Next week we are excited to welcome award-winning children’s book illustrator R. Gregory Christie to HunneBates. Mr. Christie will provide workshops for all students on Thursday and Friday. Arrival
I would like to remind families of our goal of an on time arrival at HunneBates for all students. Please help by making every effort to get your child to school before 8:30, as instruction begins promptly at 8:30. A few reminders:

Students are encouraged to arrive as early as 8:15.

School starts promptly at 8:30.

Students who arrive at class after 8:35 are considered tardy.

During the winter months please allow extra time for travel and using the car line.
The first minutes of the day are designed to help each child feel well prepared to start the day. If a child arrives late to school, it impacts the classroom community. Morning lessons begin shortly after arrival. When a child enters the classroom late, the classroom teacher needs to stop teaching, add the child to the attendance list, make sure that the child has ordered lunch and communicate with the office. This takes away learning time from the whole class. In addition, the tardy child misses the opportunity to check-in with the teacher and classmates. Thank you for your help with this.
Safety in the car line
Safety is alway our number one priority. I ask for your help in observing our car line procedures during arrival. Please review these procedures with every caregiver who may be using the car line. Here is a two minute video that may be helpful. Most importantly:

Drivers may not turn left from Elmwood Road to enter the car line front loop. Cars should approach from Westgate Rd.

Drivers must remain in the car at all times.

Children may exit the car on the passenger side only.

Do not pass other cars in the car line.
HunneBates in Bloom
As a reminder, Wednesday from 8:30 – 9:15 is HunneBates in Bloom! Families are invited to visit classrooms to celebrate their child’s work. HunneBates siblings may travel with families to visit one another’s classrooms and younger siblings are invited, too. If you are not able to make it on Wednesday, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
An invitation from WHS
Join the Wellesley High School’s Diversity Club in honoring International Women’s Month in a community event for all ages! Everyone is invited to engage in fun, educational activities that aim to promote empowerment for the women in our community. There will be arts and crafts for children, a guest speaker, refreshments, fun games, and a mural that all participants can contribute to. Please email diversityclubwhs@gmail.com if there are any questions or for more information about this event. The event will take place on Saturday, March 18 from 10:30-1:30 in the Wellesley High School Cafeteria.
As a reminder, please sign up for a spring conference with your child’s teacher if you have not done so already. I emailed the sign up links on March 8.
