Dear HunneBates,
May has been a busy month at HunneBates. On behalf of the faculty and staff, I’d like to thank the HunneBates PTO and all families and students for your thoughtfulness during Teacher Appreciation Week. We very much enjoyed our special luncheon as well as the kind notes and treats throughout the week. We are so fortunate to receive your extraordinary support and appreciation.
As we approach the end of May we are preparing for the end of the school year. We have much to celebrate and enjoy together in these last weeks of school. The last day of school has been officially announced to be Thursday, June 15. Please note: Thursday, the last day, will be a half day, with students dismissed at noon. Wednesday, June 14 will be a full day of school.
Calendar Highlights
The Spring Concert is Wednesday, May 31 at 8:45 am in the gym. The concert features the HunneBates chorus (grade 5) and the band and orchestra. All are welcome.
On the last day of school we will again take part in one of our favorite traditions, the Fifth Grade Clap Out. At 11:59 on June 15 the whole school and hopefully many families will clap wildly for our fifth graders as they make their way through the building and out the front door for one last time. All HunneBates families and friends are invited to participate. More details to follow.

Another special event in June is Field Day on June 9 with a Rain Date of June 12. Field Day at Bates is an all-school event from 1:00 – 3:00 on Kelly Field. Please consider joining the many volunteers who make this day a success for our students. Please sign up to volunteer here.
Finally, in June we recognize Pride Month, an opportunity for students to learn more about diversity and inclusion with respect to members of the LBGTQ+ community. Our goal in doing so is to affirm that everyone belongs at Bates. Our curriculum offers opportunities for students in all grades to learn about family structures and gender identity in a developmentally appropriate way, while reinforcing our district’s core value of Respect for Human Differences. As we recognize Pride in June, students and staff may wear rainbow attire and accessories if they choose throughout the month.
