Dear Bates Families,
I hope you had a restful and enjoyable vacation week! We were thrilled to return to school and see our newly completed front playground and the new swings on the back playground. For the last few days our students have been excitedly exploring and enjoying these new structures. We’re incredibly grateful to the Town for funding these improvements, and we extend our sincere thanks to the Department of Public Works for their thoughtful planning and leadership throughout these projects.

Thank you, PTO!
A big thank-you to our wonderful PTO for helping to meet so many needs here at Bates! Students and staff are enjoying new fans provided by the PTO—especially as the weather warms up. In addition, our students have been excited to use the freshly painted basketball court lines, which now align perfectly with the new basketball hoops on the back playground. We’re so grateful for the PTO’s continued support and generosity!
Staffing Updates
I have two staffing updates to share with our school community. Our librarian, Liz Rey, has been on medical leave and will continue her leave through the end of the school year. We are fortunate to have Morgan McGraw teaching library classes during Mrs. Rey’s absence, and we appreciate the support she is providing to our students. Additionally, our school adjustment counselor, Marisa Cheung, has taken a leave of absence through early fall. We will share more information about coverage and support for students as we finalize plans. We’re grateful for the flexibility and dedication of our staff during these transitions, and we remain committed to supporting our students and families.
