Dear Hunnewell Families,

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for our community’s wonderful participation and engagement during last night’s School Committee Conversation with Dr. Lussier and Mrs. Ofenlock. It was an inspiring and productive evening that highlighted our shared commitment to ensuring the best for our students.

Here are the key topics discussed:

  1. Healthier Options for Lunch:
Parents strongly expressed interest in promoting healthier meal choices in our school lunch program. Dr. Lussier and Mrs. Ofenlock shared updates on ongoing collaborations with food service providers to introduce more nutritious options. Your feedback is always welcome.
  2. Increasing Enrollment at Hunnewell:
Questions were raised centered on the School Committee report on Wellesley School Enrollment. With enrollment numbers rising, parents raised thoughtful questions about how we will manage resources and space effectively. Plans were shared to ensure that our facilities, staff, and programs adapt seamlessly to meet the needs of all students.
  3. Literacy Task Force Update:
We were pleased to share progress on the Literacy Task Force’s efforts, focusing on evidence-based practices to enhance literacy instruction. The task force remains committed to creating a strong foundation for our students and will provide further updates in the coming months.
  4. “Cell Phone Working Group” Update:
The Cell Phone Working Group has been exploring ways to balance technology use in schools. Dr. Lussier emphasized and shared with us an update on the working group. Recommendations will be shared later in the year.
  5. Differentiation in Literacy and Math Instruction:
A detailed discussion centered on strategies for differentiation in both literacy and math. Teachers are employing targeted approaches to meet the diverse needs of our learners, ensuring that every child is appropriately challenged and supported. More to come on this very important topic. We will be welcoming parent collaboration throughout the year. More to come.

Your participation and input are invaluable as we work together to foster a positive and enriching school environment. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have additional feedback or ideas to share.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations in the months ahead.

Dare to Dream,

Mr. Dees
