Dear Hunnewell Families,

As Thanksgiving approaches, this is not your typical “what I am thankful for” letter. Instead, it’s a reflection on how gratitude truly emerges—not just from grand celebrations, but from the simple, often mundane, moments that quietly build our relationships and shape our lives.

These moments aren’t flashy, but they are meaningful. They’re the kind of moments that happen every day here at Hunnewell, and I’ve seen how they create lasting connections. Juliet’s (5E) laughter during morning announcements—so pure and uncontainable that she couldn’t even finish her joke—was a shared moment of joy that brightened everyone’s morning. Bernadette’s (KP) wide-eyed excitement during a discussion about puppies wasn’t just a fleeting expression of curiosity; it was a spark that brought a whole “puppy” conversation. Grady (KM) and Jackson’s (KP) animated recess debate about their “superpowers” was a reminder of how imagination and friendship intertwine to create something magical. Listening to kindergarten boys uncontrollably laughing is contagious.

It’s easy to overlook these moments in the busyness of life, but they are the threads that weave us together. A shared laugh, a thoughtful pause, or a meaningful conversation—these are the moments that help us understand one another, deepen our relationships, and make the ordinary extraordinary.

As you head into your Thanksgiving break, I encourage you to approach this time with mindfulness and purpose. Look for these moments of connection and allow yourself to be fully present in them. Take time to listen, to laugh, and to simply be with those around you. Whether it’s a deep conversation over dinner, a quiet moment of understanding with your child, or the joy of reconnecting with a loved one, these moments matter. It is the foundation of our connectedness.

Let’s be intentional in our conversations, relaxed in our gatherings, and open to the meaningful moments that surround us. It’s not just about reflecting on gratitude; it’s about living it.

Please, please understand that our life is but a moment in time—a fleeting vapor, here one instant and gone the next. Each day, each breath is a gift, not to be wasted but embraced. Take each moment with purpose, seeking meaning in your actions. Sprinkle it with fun, for laughter and joy are the sparks that make life worth living. Live fully, love deeply, and savor the now—for it is all we truly have. Happy Thanksgiving!

Dare to Dream,

Mr. Dees

Dogs on the Campus

Please understand that we cannot have dogs on the campus during arrival, regular school hours, and dismissal. Many children are afraid of dogs or may have had a negative interaction. I fully understand the need to walk your dog (I am the dog walker in my family) and bringing them to school for drop-off and pick-up seems like a great plan. If you plan on bringing your dog during arrival and dismissal please DO NOT bring them on the campus. You might remain on the sidewalk near the fence or tie them to the fence. This allows for a safe arrival and dismissal for everyone. Thank you for your understanding.
