Dear Hunnewell Parents,
As we journey together through this school year, I am reminded of the words of George Washington:
“I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles – the character of an honest person.”
These words remind us that character is the foundation of every success. In a world that often measures achievement by awards and accolades, integrity, kindness, and honesty truly shape who we are and how we influence others. At Hunnewell, we are committed to building not just bright minds but also compassionate, honest individuals who make a positive difference in the lives around them.
Thank you for modeling those values for your child through your words, actions, and relationships. They grow into champions of character in their own right. Thank you for your partnership in fostering a community where every learner feels valued, supported, and inspired to become their best.
Dare to Dream,
Mr. Dees
STEM WEEK
This year, STEM Week in Massachusetts is celebrated from October 21- 25th. At Wellesley, we say STEAM to acknowledge the art and creativity involved in STEM. This year, Wellesley Elementary Schools will focus on Math in STEAM with our students. During this week, your child will explore and try to solve a challenging spatial puzzle.
Why a Spatial Puzzle? What’s important about Spatial Reasoning?
- Spatial reasoning provides multiple entry points and equitable access to mathematics.
- Spatial reasoning is critical to mathematics and STEAM more broadly. Research indicates a strong relationship between spatial reasoning and mathematics achievement across grades.
- Spatial reasoning is also an important predictor of achievement in STEAM careers.
- Spatial reasoning is malleable and can be improved at any age.
- Spatial puzzles are fun and provide productive struggle.
If you are interested in continuing and enriching this type of spatial reasoning for your child at home, many commercial activities are available. Here is a list of various spatial awareness games for elementary-age children.
