Dear Bates families,
With the final days of school counting down, we are fully enjoying the end of year activities and the promise of summer vacation ahead. This is also a wonderful time to reflect on the highlights of the year and celebrate our students’ hard work and personal growth. Our fifth graders end the year with many special events, including their three day trip to Hale Reservation in Westwood. The Hale trip is a special time for our fifth graders to step outside the classroom and experience different kinds of challenges while developing teamwork and new skills. We’ve also enjoyed our spring concert, field trips to the MFA, Lowell Mills and Franklin Park Zoo, learning from visiting authors and poets such as Amy Ludwig Vanderwater and Jerry Pallotta and our annual Bates Family Picnic Wednesday night. The excitement continues with Field Day today, the Bates family hike on Sunday, the fourth grade’s Tall Tales plays and our Fond Farewell ceremony for our fifth graders on June 16. As a reminder, our last day of school is Tuesday, June 20 and this will be a half day for our students.
A few notes about Field Day today:
- Field Day will take place from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on the field
- Any changes to dismissal plans must be made before 1:00 p.m.
- The lower parking lot will be closed during Field Day
- Dismissal for walkers will take place from the field – look for your child’s class sign
- Car line, WCCC and bus dismissal procedures will operate as usual
- Please make sure to send water with your child today
Looking ahead to August:
A much anticipated event of past summers has been the arrival of the upcoming year’s class lists. This summer you will be asked to go into the WPS Parent Portal in order to complete the necessary back to school forms. Once these forms are completed you will have access to your child’s teacher for SY17-18. Please note for reasons of privacy, you will see your child’s teacher rather than a full class list. You will receive more information about this procedure in July. We appreciate your cooperation with this updated approach.
