Dear Bates,

As we wrap up the month of March, I have a lot of information to share!

New Bates Pride T-shirts

Thank you to our generous PTO for purchasing a new Bates t-shirt for every Bates student.  These shirts feature a new logo with Tux the Bates mascot.  Each grade is a unique color, and the students’ year of graduation from Bates is printed on the back.  Our hope is that students will enjoy wearing their Bates pride.  Students are also encouraged to wear these on the day of the Mini-Marathon, Field Day and other school events.  Please look for your child’s t-shirt in their backpack today.

The Bates Mini-Marathon

The Bates Mini-Marathon is just under two weeks away.  Students are working hard to train for their run.  As a reminder, the Bates Mini-Marathon is also an opportunity to raise funds for Friends of Wellesley METCO.  Families are welcome to come to cheer on the runners.  Below are the times each grade will run:

9:00-9:20 am — 1st Grade

9:30-9:50 am — 2nd Grade

10:00-10:20 am — 5th Grade

10:30-10:50 am — 3rd Grade

11:00-11:20 am — 4th Grade

11:30-11:50 am — Kindergarten

Solar Eclipse on April 8

A solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8th.  This will be a near total eclipse for us in Wellesley and the last solar eclipse visible from parts of the contiguous United States until 2044.  Hopefully the skies will be clear, and we will be able to view this rare astronomical event.  We would like to support a safe viewing of the eclipse for all students at school.  The Bates PTO supported the purchase solar safe glasses for each Bates student.  We will instruct students not to look at the sun without proper eye protection.  Our plan is for classes to view the eclipse between 2:30 and 3:00 although the maximum view will not be until 3:29 pm.  We anticipate that curious students and caregivers may want to view this event during and after dismissal.  If you have any concerns about your child participating in this activity at school, please reach out to your child’s teacher.  To learn more about the eclipse visit NASA’s website.

Warmly,

Toni
