Dear Bates Families,

Each and every week I visit classrooms, the lunchroom and recess to understand how our students are doing throughout the school day.  I have loved seeing our students happily learning and playing while also building a positive classroom community.  They are working very hard.  As we conclude the first full week of school, I anticipate that our students are possibly feeling both excited about school and also a bit tired!

Next week

On Wednesday, October 3 the Bates School will be closed from 12:45-2:00 p.m.  Our faculty and staff will be participating in our regular practice of routine safety drills.  We will be collaborating with the Wellesley Police Department to practice and standardize our security protocols and procedures.  Our training is consistent with those happening in all Wellesley Public Schools as well as those conducted by other neighboring districts.

All campus activities have been moved to accommodate this training.  We also ask that all students and families abstain from returning to the building or occupying any of the outdoor spaces, including the playgrounds.  The office will not be open for calls during this period.

This work reflects the ongoing commitment Wellesley Public School maintains to ensure the safety of all students and staff.  Thank you for your assistance.

Finally, Bates’ Green Team asks families to please help our students by not idling in the school car line.  This short idling video explains why it is so important to turn off car engines.  Thank you.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards,

Toni Jolley
