Dear Bates Community,

Happy Friday!  I hope this email finds you well.

At the PTO meeting last week I was able to share some recent updates with the community.  I will highlight two here.  First, thank you to our whole community for all you are doing to keep students, staff and families safe.  The measures we are taking are working.  As you may be aware, the district maintains a COVID case tracking system on the district website and linked here.  The dashboard is updated daily as cases are reported.  To protect the privacy of students and staff, affected classrooms are not informed.  But you will be notified if your child is identified as a close contact of an individual diagnosed with COVID.

On Friday, January 29 at 3:00 p.m. you will have access to your child’s report card in PowerSchool.  Today you received an email from Acting Superintendent Michael LaCava with directions for viewing your child’s report card.  I encourage you to double check that you know your PowerSchool username and password in advance of Friday afternoon.

Finally, some members of our fifth grade student council initiated a project this month to increase safety and efficiency in the morning carline.  I love that this project was their idea.  They have the following suggestions to share with you:

  1. Do not let students exit the car before the front circle.  When cars stop along Elmwood Road, it creates an unexpected back up and slows the carline.
  2. Cars should pull all the way through the carline to the end of the bus loop before unloading.  This will help to greatly expedite the carline.

Thank you for following these suggestions.  Several fifth graders will be holding signs to help remind you next week.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Warmly,

Toni
