It’s December and I’d like to highlight a few special upcoming events and news in our community.
Winter Concert: December 20
Wednesday, December 20 at 8:45 is our winter concert. The winter concert features performances by the Bates band and orchestra as well as the Bates fifth grade chorus. Families and friends are invited to this special performance.
Fond Farewell for Beth Perry
With very mixed emotions I share with you Beth Perry’s announcement that she will be retiring at the end of the month. Over her ten years at Bates, Beth has shared her passion for teaching music with all of our students. Always open to new ideas, she created clubs such as the Ukulele club to foster the love of music within the school and with the students.
Beth came to the Wellesley community almost twenty years ago as the Director of Performing Arts and through that role was able to continue to build a solid foundation for the K-12 Performing Arts Department which continues today. Through her efforts in that position, she has had such a positive impact on not just Bates students, but on all of the students involved in music and the Performing Arts in the district.
Due to Beth’s ability to use music to celebrate our special community, our Bates concerts and community meetings have become one of our favorite traditions at our school. Beth will be greatly missed. Beth shares that she is looking forward to retirement to spend more time with her family and to do some choral singing again. Please join me in saying farewell to Beth Perry and wishing her all the very best in her retirement.
A Visit with Dr. Merritt Moore
WPS is excited to welcome Dr. Merritt Moore to help us celebrate National Computer Science Week. Dr. Moore will speak to students during the day on Wednesday, December 13. She will also offer a webinar for families on December 13 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Dr. Moore will talk about how STEAM helped her to follow her passions in science, coding and art.
