Dear Bates,
It’s April and the Mini-Marathon is almost here! Please come to cheer on our students on Wednesday, April 10! Families and friends are invited to stand around the school to cheer on the runners. Please note the schedule below. We ask that families avoid parking in the front circle or in the Bates parking lot. Please make sure to park on only one side of Elmwood Road. Thank you in advance to our students who are also raising money for Friends of Wellesley METCO. We advise that students please hold onto their pledge sheets until after the Mini-Marathon so they can get as many pledges as possible. Thank you also to the Bates PTO for hosting the Spaghetti Dinner on Tuesday, April 9 from 5:30 – 7:00. More information about the dinner and a link to order tickets is in the weekly PTO blast.
Here is the Mini-Marathon schedule for Wednesday:
9:00-9:20 am — 1st Grade
9:30-9:50 am — 2nd Grade
10:00-10:20 am — 5th Grade
10:30-10:50 am — 3rd Grade
11:00-11:20 am — 4th Grade
11:30-11:50 am — Kindergarten
Planning for Next Year
In addition to getting excited about the Bates Mini-Marathon next week, we are also deep into planning for next school year. If you have a child or know someone who has a child who will be five years old by August 31, it is important for them to register for kindergarten as soon as possible! Here is the district link to register for school.
As we prepare for next year we engage in a thoughtful process for class placement. We know our students well, and we work collaboratively to create classes that are balanced in a number of ways. We consider each student’s learning style, individual strengths and needs and school friendships to create the best groupings possible for Bates students. If you feel you have a significant concern about an emotional, social or academic issue that impacts class placement, please complete this form by Friday, April 26. Please note that because our placement process goal is to form well-balanced classrooms, we cannot consider requests for specific teachers, specific teaching/personality styles or requests to be with friends.
Finally, please save the date for our Spring Concert. On May 22 at 8:45 our Fifth Grade Chorus, the Bates band and the Bates orchestra will perform. Families and friends are invited!
