Dear Bates Families,

I am happy to report that the first three days of school were by our assessment a huge success. I saw smiles everywhere, students being helped to learn routines and expectations, and students engaging in team building activities and learning experiences that felt just right for the start of school. After these busy first days I anticipate all of us will rest well this weekend!

Earlier this week work began at Bates on important security upgrades. Work begins each day at 3:30 p.m. to avoid impacting the school day. We expect the majority of the work will be completed before Back to School Night on Sept. 14, and I look forward to sharing the improvements with you then. Our schedule for Back to School Night will be:

6:00 – 6:30 Grades 4 & 5 presentations

6:30 – 7:00 Principal presentation in the Gym

7:00 – 7:30 Kindergarten and Grade 1 presentations

7:30 – 8:00 Grades 2 & 3 presentations

Please take a minute this weekend to help your child learn his/her 4-digit PIN used for purchasing lunch and milk at school. Students received a laminated card with their PIN this week. One helpful tip is to program an electronic device at home with your child’s PIN as the password. If students forget their PIN they can still purchase lunch. An adult will help to look up their PIN.

Eid Mubarak to our Muslim families and friends celebrating Eid al-Adha. To all, enjoy the long Labor Day weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, September 5.

Warm regards,

Toni Jolley
