Dear Bates Parents and Guardians,

I hope this email finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy and managing the ever-changing landscape of our current lives.  As a parent and educator, I am trying to remain grateful and optimistic, but additionally, I am feeling a significant sense of loss.  I know I speak for all educators in saying we greatly miss your children and our wonderful Bates community and look forward to the time when we return to school.

Staying Connected

During these challenging times I know that our Bates community will support each other.  Please know that the faculty and staff at Bates are here for you and your children.  I encourage you to reach out to me or any of the teachers at the Bates School via email if we can be helpful in any way.  Because our building is closed until further notice, email is the best way to reach us.

Remote Learning & Teacher Communication

This afternoon Superintendent David Lussier sent an email to all families introducing the WPS remote learning website that will launch tomorrow from the WPS website.  I hope you will find the website to be a helpful resource for your children.  Dr. Lussier’s email included an overview document that should answer most questions you might have about remote learning.  If due to limited access to the website you would prefer a paper copy of the learning resources available to students, please email me as soon as possible at jolleya@wellesleyps.org.

In addition to the activities on the remote learning website, your child will receive regular messages from his or her Bates teachers.  You can expect a daily message from your child’s classroom teacher and weekly messages from each specialist teacher posted to the website by 10 a.m. each day.  The teachers are very excited about this opportunity to connect with students.  You can help your child access these messages by navigating to the remote learning website, selecting “Teacher Communication,” then “Bates” and your child’s teacher(s).

Finally, I want to reiterate that our top priority will always be that students, staff and families remain healthy.  We know that much energy and effort is required to maintain a family’s physical and mental health, especially during this time.  With this in mind, know that the learning resources we offer students are entirely optional.

Going forward I will be providing updates and staying in touch with families via email on a weekly basis.  In the meantime, take care and be well.

Warm regards,

Toni Jolley
