“Honor the leap as well as the landing.” Shannon Donavan-Monti
photo (1).JPG Dear Fiske Families, It has been another fabulous week at Fiske!  Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended the Back to School Night on Wednesday.  It was a pleasure to have the chance to meet you all.  Thank you again for the warm welcome you have given me. Today was a Fiske-tastic day with countless cowgirls and cowboys.  Fun was had by all.  Any visitor to Fiske today would have felt as if they had been transported to Texas!
Illustration of a violin Instrument Demonstration This summer the Fiske band played three songs for the teachers’ opening day.  It was an impressive performance and one that made me very proud of the work that Julie Verret and her students do to provide music for our community.  One of the songs they performed is on our website for your viewing pleasure. This incredible performance could not have happened without the amazing instrument lessons that are offered to our students.  This morning grades 2-5 students participated in an instrument demonstration.  All students in grades K-5 may sign up to learn to play an instrument. Grades K-5 may play violin, viola, cello or bass (beginning in grade 2). Grades 4-5 may play flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone euphonium, tuba, or percussion as well. You can register your child at Instrument Registration Night Thursday, September 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Middle School Cafeteria. For more information click on this link: Instrument Information or you can contact Mrs. Verret at verretj@wellesleyps.org.
File:Horse clipart.svg Wild West Tomorrow is the Wild West from 10:00-2:00. This is the day that cowboy and cowgirl legends are made of!   The day when we all tap into our inner Westerner and have a good old time!  There will be bouncy houses, games, crafts, and a pettng zoo. I look forward to seeing you all and experiencing my first ever Wild West! Yee haw partners! Yom Kippur Please remember that we do not have school on Wednesday, September 23 in observance of Yom Kippur.   Brain Show Thanks to the incredible efforts of the Creative Arts Committee, our Fiske students will be participating in the Brain Show on Friday, September 25th. Please remember to ask your students about what they learned from this exciting presentation. PTO Thank you Jay Staunton and Harp Bedi for speaking about the PTO during Back to School Night.  We absolutely could not be the amazing school that we are without the tireless support of our PTO.  The first PTO meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 30 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  Please come and see how you can be part of this organization. All are encouraged to join!   School Children, Crossing Zone Safety Note It has been observed by some or our neighbors that people have been speeding down the side streets to get to school. Please take extra care when driving on the streets around the school.  Children are walking and riding their bikes to school and we want them to get here safely.  Safety is our number one concern!   Community Notice Page I wanted to share some an interesting link that can help you navigate all the news and events that happen around town.  On the Fiske website under the “Community” tab, there is a link to the Community Notices page.  This is where you can find all the upcoming events in the district and town. For example, did you know that along with the Wild West, the World of Wellesley is holding the second annual Diversity Day?  This event is being held from 8:30-2:30 at the Wellesley Community Center.  The Wellesley Free Library is also holding their book sale from September 18-20. These are just two of the events that you can find on the Community Notice page. Thank you all for being consistently supportive of our Fiske students and staff.  It is a pleasure working with your children every day.  Please know that I am available by phone or email to answer any of your questions or concerns.  Have a Wild West of a weekend.   Phone: 781-446-6265 email: mcgregorr@wellesleyps.org
