“Honor the leap as well as the landing.” Shannon Donavan-Monti
Fiske Families,This week was filled with an outstanding winter concert, science projects, a visiting hawk, and a persuasive essay presentation to Superintendent Dr. Lussier and myself!  It was truly a Fiske-tastic week!
Winter ConcertIMG_2384.JPGIMG_2385.JPGIMG_2390.JPGA huge thank you to Julie Verret, MaryAnn McCann, and all the orchestra, band and 5th grade chorus students for bringing music to our Fiske community.  It is clear that Fiske students enjoy music!  A special thank you to Katherine Liu for playing the piano accompaniment for our chorus.
Techsplortations comes to second grade!IMG_2304.JPGFullSizeRender.jpgThank you to the Creative Arts Committee for bringing Techsplorations, a science engineering program, to second grade this week.  This program provided the second graders a fun hands-on opportunity to test their ideas about tension, compression, and stability. Students both explored and created  structures in class.

Our Newest Community Member!IMG_2380.JPGGuess who has joined our community?  A hawk!  Earlier this week, this Amazing bird was seen perched on a telephone pole at the corner of Hastings and Sheridan.  He must have wanted a closer look at the Fiske students, because Thursday morning he was perched on the roof of our school while students were entering the building.  It was a beautiful sight that many students enjoyed.
Butterfly Garden Restoration PresentationIMG_1883.JPGWe are building young activists at Fiske! On Friday morning, all three third grade classes presented persuasive essays to both Dr. Lussier and myself.  The students were requesting permission to plan and replant the butterfly garden that was taken out during construction this summer.  The students were very persuasive and provided several well researched reasons for this project. Their presentations included plans for planting and maintaining the garden.  Well done third grade!

Fiske Community Service ProjectsThe culture of caring is overflowing at Fiske this month.  Collections have been gathered for Cradles to Crayons, Globe Santa, Project Just Because, Newton Wellesley Hospital, Boston Animal Adoption Center, and Needham food Pantry. Thank you for making this a joyous season for all!
