Fiske Families,I was walking my dog yesterday and noticed a few crocuses blooming; spring is just around the corner! The weather is certainly making us all feel winter is behind us. However, don’t put your coats away just yet… March is a tricky weather month.Our new student council has been very busy this week. They are inviting all students to participate in Crazy Hat Day on Friday, March 18th. Find your craziest hat and join the fun. The Student Council is also planning their first assembly with a focus on how they use growth mindset in their daily lives. Fifth Grade Parents, please remember that the Wellesley Middle School will be hosting a Fifth Grade Parent/Guardian Orientation Night at Wellesley Middle School on Thursday, March 17th from 6:30-9:00.
Thank you Creative Arts Committee!
Thank you to the Creative Arts Committee for having author Rob Buyea visit our fifth grade classrooms. During his presentation he reminded our fifth graders that authors think about being writers even when they are away from their desk. Mr. Buyea also told the students that they can become a writer by being a reader. Mr. Buyea shared with the children that before his career as an author he was a wrestler. His wrestling days taught him about setting goals, commitment, perseverance and the importance of repetition. All of these skills are brought to his writing. It was a wonderful learning experience for our fifth graders.
News from Fitness and HealthThank you to all of the families who were able to join us in our yoga practice. It was wonderful to see so many special moments between students and their families. Please continue to practice your Yoga at home.
Thank you also for another great year of our annual jump rope for heart fundraiser. Our grand total is $3,879.21. This money will be donated to the American Heart Association to help in funding research toward heart disease. The students learned a lot about heart disease and how it affects all of us in some way. Raffle prizes are being handed out to the winners this week in their classes. Gifts from the American Heart Association for the students who donated will arrive in a couple of weeks and will be sent home in their backpacks. Please keep a look out for that. Fiske After School Enrichment ProgramWe are currently working on providing new courses for the Fiske After School Enrichment Program after April break. Details regarding upcoming courses will be coming soon!
The Wellesley Recreation Department will be processing all after school enrichment enrollments. February classes filled up in 1 hour so if you have not taken a course through the Wellesley Recreation Department, please set up an account with them now by calling 781-235-2370. Trading CardsThe Fiske staff is requesting that all trading cards be kept at home. These cards have become distracting to students during the school day. Thank you for your support in this effort.
