Fiske Families,
Fiske is in the news! Every year every third, fourth and fifth grade student across Massachusetts takes the MCAS in the spring. Fifty one schools across Massachusetts are being commended by the State for academic achievement, and FISKE is among this group. On February 1st, Superintendent David Lussier, Data Coordinator Karen Archambault and I are going to the State House to accept this recognition on behalf of our entire Fiske community. We are extremely proud of our students. This achievement could not happen without the tireless work of our teachers and the support of the parents/guardians of Fiske. Thank you for working together to give our students countless opportunities to learn and grow both socially and academically.
Attendance/Tardiness
As we look at the elements that make children successful at school, it is imperative for students to arrive at school on time and to attend every day. All children are expected to be in school at 8:30 a.m. to start the day. We understand that there are times when a child is late or misses school due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. If your child will be late or absent from school, please notify the school before 8:30 a.m. with a phone call to the absence/tardy line 781.446.6219 (option 8) or the office 781.446.6265. Please leave a message if lunch needs to be ordered for a tardy arrival and give the reason for the tardiness or absence. We request that if your child is absent more than five consecutive days due to illness, that you provide a statement from your health care provider.
Coffee with the Principal
Come join Principal Rachel McGregor for coffee and conversation!
When: Wednesday, January 25th at 8:45 a.m.
Where: Fiske Library
Thank You Creative Arts Committee!
Today the third, fourth and fifth grade students heard New York Times Bestselling author/illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka speak on his creative process. Jarrett is the author/illustrator of the Lunch Lady Series, Platypus Police Squad and several picture books. Jarrett reminded the children that every day they have the power to go home and write or draw a story. He was inspiring to all and the children enjoyed hearing his tales of growing up and becoming an author/illustrator.
THE SCIENCE FAIR IS COMING!
Calling all budding scientists! The second annual Fiske Science Fair will be held on Feb 11th. This is an entirely voluntary and extracurricular activity—if your child is interested in participating, you can sign up here! Last year we had exploding volcanoes, floating grapes, and dry ice propelled race cars.
Fiske Spirit Wear is here!
Are you interested in purchasing Fiske Spirit Wear? All Fiske Spirit wear and Spirit items are now availible online at http://www.thefiskepto.com/blank . All orders will be sent home in backpacks.
Winter Recess Guidelines
Winter is here and the snow will be coming. If there is snow on the playgrounds, students with snow pants and boots will be allowed to play on the field and structure area. Those who do not have snow pants and boots will play on the blacktop.
Before-School BOKS Playtime Activity Starts Tues. 1/24
Active bodies = active minds. Get your kids moving in the mornings before school with this FREE parent-run before-school exercise program BOKS (Build Our Kids Success or www.BOKSkids.org). Developed by moms in Natick with a curriculum by Reebok, BOKS includes warm-ups, stretching, relay races and fun team-oriented games. Studies show that kids who participate in aerobic exercise before school are able to concentrate better in class Sessions resume on Tuesday, January 24 and continue until mid March. Drop off is 7:30-7:40 a.m. in the Fiske gym. If you haven’t attended yet this year, please bring the attached BOKS Registration Form.
PARENTS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We need 3-4 BOKS parent volunteers each day from 7:30-8:15am to lead the BOKS session(1 leader, 2-3 helpers). If you can commit to a recurring signup that would be best (ie: every Tuesday, or every other Friday). This is a great way to spend fun quality time with your children Sign up to help:
