Fiske Falcon logo

Dear Fiske Families,

Each day at Fiske our students demonstrate the Fiske Fundamentals; Fair, Inclusive, Safe,Kind and Encouraging.  This year we have spent time reinforcing what student-to-student respect, student-to-teacher respect, and teacher-to student respect looks like at school. Each morning  students who have earned a Respect Certificates are announced over the intercom, along with the behavior they demonstrated.  These certificates are then posted on the bulletin board outside of the Principal’s office.  This bulletin board has become a point of pride for our entire school by showing how we are  all working on being helpful every day.

In addition to our wall of respect, each grade level is presenting  an all school assembly on respectful behavior.  This week we were treated to a presentation by the Kindergarten on respectful behavior in the hall.  Our youngest friends reminded us all to walk quietly in the hall with our hands to our sides.   We do this so all of  our friends  in class can focus on learning. A special shoutout to Thatcher Bonniwell for helping film and produce the Kindergarten video for the assembly.

Thank you to all the parents who joined us on Monday evening for the Ken Kay presentation.  Ken stretched our thinking around what skills our children will need when they graduate from the Wellesley Public Schools.  Ken Kay will be returning to Wellesley to work with a task force of 40 community members to develop a profile of a graduate for our schools. We will be hearing updates about this work throughout the year.

Flu season is upon us.  At this time we are not experiencing high levels of absentees and hope this trend continues.  Our custodians are working diligently to keep Fiske clean to limit the spread of illnesses.  Please find the attached letter from our school nurse Betsy Hindmarsh for tips on how to stay healthy at  this time of year. Jump Rope for Heart

Dear Fiske Families,

We are excited again to host our annual Jump Rope for Heart Celebration in Fitness and Health classes this February.

During Fitness and Health classes we will be participating in many jumping stations.  We will be using short ropes, long ropes, aerobic steps, hurdles, hippity hoppers, urban rebounders and many other fun pieces of equipment.

We will be also raising money to donate to the American Heart Association.  This part is completely voluntary.  Fundraising forms have been sent home with your children and they will walk you through the fundraising part.

Last year we raised over $3,500. Students are learning how heart disease is still the leading cause of death in America. It all starts with our healthy habits everyday. The American Heart Association has generously donated many balls and ropes to our recess equipment and also many Field Day stations are made possible by generous donations from the Heart Association. They are very grateful for our school and all of our generosity.

Thank you for doing your part to save a heart by choosing a healthy lifestyle. To make an online donation or to gather more information please go to heart.org/jump and search for Fiske. Please return all forms by Friday March 2nd.

We will be promoting how jumping rope is one of the best forms of exercise to get to a healthy heart.
