Blue Fiske Falcon
Fiske Families,
Just when we thought the hot days were over…
I want to send a huge compliment to all of your children. Each and every child did their best on the hot days we have been experiencing. On Thursday we took out the hose and misted the children who wanted some cooling off. Hopefully Thursday was the end of the hot days.
On Wednesday we had our first Walk to School Day. Children signed in after completing their walk. Each month the class that has the most participants wins an extra Fitness and Health class and the golden sneaker. Congratulations to 5O for winning this month.
Thank you to all the carline parents, guardians and caregivers for following our new afternoon carline dismissal plan. Cars are lining up 2:50 p.m. which allows The P.A.W.S. dismissal to go smoothly.
It has been noticed that some children are arriving to school before 8:15 a.m. and playing on the playgrounds. Please be aware that children should arrive to school no earlier than 8:15 a.m. We appreciate you attention to this safety matter.
Triangle of Respect
Triangle of Respect
On Wednesday we had our first all school assembly. Students were reminded of the Fiske Fundamentals and shown the Triangle of Respect. After the assembly the children were engaged in class discussions focusing on the “respect triangle.” This triangle symbolizes the expected respectful behaviors between student-to-student, teacher-to-student, and student-to-teacher. Please make sure to ask your children about the triangle and what respectful behaviors they see and demonstrate at school. Thank you

The PTO is looking for families to host Grade-Wide Socials.
The socials are a great way to kick off the new school year. It is an opportunity to meet new families and see old friends in your child’s grade. These are parent/guardian only events held on a Friday or Saturday evening in September, October or early November. Guests are asked to bring an appetizer or dessert and a beverage of choice to share with the group. Invitations will be sent home via email. If you are interested in hosting and/or would like more information about hosting responsibilities, please contact Leslie O’Reilly at leslie_kimber@yahoo.com.
We are looking for two new School Council parent members
Site-Based Councils were mandated by the Education Reform Act of 1993 as part of the Act’s decentralization of decision-making. The Fiske School Council is composed of equal members of elected teachers and parents, together with the Principal and a community member. Members serve for two-year terms. The role of the Fiske School Council is to advise the Principal, especially in creating and evaluating the School Improvement Plan. The School Council meets several times during the school year. Minutes of all meetings are published on the Fiske website.
The Fiske School Council currently has two parent representatives; Harp Bedi and Jay Staunton. We are looking for two more parents to join the School Council. If you would like to nominate yourself, or a friend, please contact PTO President Megan LeBlanc at maple@gmail.com. The PTO will run an election for interested parties during back to school night on Wednesday, September 12th.
School Attendance
School attendance is very important to the academic success of your children. Please make every effort to have your children entering school by 8:30a.m. If your child/children are going to be absent please call the absentee line at 781-446-6219. Excused absences include student illness, death in the family, religious observance, suspension or special circumstances where the absences have been pre-approved by the principal. If a child has 7 or more unexcused absences within a six month period a letter will be sent home to the parents/guardians. In the event of continued unexcused absences, a conversation with the principal will be scheduled to develop a plan to improve the child’s attendance.
Vacations and Homework
The school discourages non-school sponsored trips and vacations which are taken outside of the scheduled school vacation dates. Students are expected to attend school every day unless they are sick or have an unexpected event that requires them to be absent. In the event that a family decides to take extra vacations during the school year, missed work will not be provided from the teacher for students to take on the vacation. Children are encouraged to read daily and write in a journal about their experiences.
Have a wonderful weekend.
