Blue Fiske Falcon

Fiske Families,

It is that time of the year again, Halloween!  Parents, guardians and friends, we are excited to have you join us for our annual Halloween Parade on Wednesday, October 31st at 9:00 a.m. The parade route is as follows;  students will exit the building from the front school lobby and take a left to walk along the sidewalk in front of the school to the primary playground. The parade will conclude by circling the backfield and children will enter the building through the back doors. The parade route will be marked by cones.  Fiske’s Student Council members will be leading the parade. Come and join us for the fun!

Please be aware that students should refrain from wearing masks, face paint or makeup and leave all props at home.

Please inform your child’s classroom teacher if your child will not be participating in the parade. There will be a fall activity in the library for students who will not be participating in the parade.

ATTENDANCE

It is the time of year when many holidays are happening and families are gathering. When making your holiday plans keep in mind that students should attend school with the exception of illness, observance of a religious holiday,  or have an unexpected event that requires them to be absent. We strongly discourage children taking extended vacation time, or being released early from school before a long weekend or vacation week.  Attendance is a major contributing factor to the success of each child. Please make every effort to have your child/children in school. Please see our Fiske Insider’s Guide and WPS Student Handbook  for attendance recommendations below.

Insider’s Guide to Fiske Attendance Information

School attendance is imperative for the learning of each student. Excused absences include student illness, death in the family, religious observance, suspension or special circumstances where the absences have been pre-approved by the principal. If a child has 7 or more unexcused absences within a six month period a letter will be sent home to the parents/guardians.  In the event of continued unexcused absences, a conversation with the principal will be scheduled to develop a plan to improve the child’s attendance.

Wellesley Public Schools  discourages non-school sponsored trips and vacations which are taken outside of the scheduled school vacation dates. Students are expected to attend school every day unless they are sick or have an unexpected event that requires them to be absent.  In the event that a family decides to take extra vacations during the school year, missed work will not be provided from the teacher for students to take on the vacation. Children are encouraged to read daily and write in a journal about their experiences.

For further information regarding WPS attendance information please see the Wellesley Public Schools Elementary Student Handbook 2017-2018 p. 33-34

Have a wonderful weekend and stay dry!
