Blue Fiske Falcon

Dear Families,

On Wednesday Fiske families, friends, and students enjoyed the Fourth Grade assembly, The Life of Harriet Tubman.  The fourth graders worked incredibly hard to learn 8 songs to sing and play during the concert. Our narrator Hunnewell Librarian, Roxanne Scott, brought Harriet Tubman to life for all of us to experience.  Each year the Schofield Music Teacher, Matthew Poletto, comes to play the piano for the program. Mr. Brandon Cox assisted with the technology. Thank you Mrs. Scott, Mr. Poletto and Mr. Cox for being part of the program. This entire program would not have been possible without the incredible dedication of our Music Teacher, Mrs. Verret.  Each year she spends a great deal of time planning and working with the students to develop an incredible program for our community. We are truly grateful for all she does to bring music to our students.

Super Bowl Read-A-Thon

Many Fiske students came to school on Monday tired after a fun weekend of skiing and Sunday night football.  Thanks to Mrs. Floyd’s creative idea, each child spent the morning relaxing and enjoying their favorite books.  Dr. Lussier came to join KM and read Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Williams. It was a wonderful way to start the week.

Student Council Update

Speaking of a fun week…The Student Council is at it again.  For their last week of being on the Student Council, they have two Fisketastic ideas.

1. The Student Council has  designed a spirit week for next week. All are invited to participate.

  • Monday – Fiske Spirit Day- wear your Fiske gear or colors (green and blue)

  • Tuesday – Dress as what you want to be when you grow up

  • Wednesday -Crazy Hat or Hair Day

  • Thursday – Bring in your favorite board game

  • Friday – Pajama Day

2. For several weeks the Student Council has been researching a list of charitable organizations to fundraise for next week.   After great consideration, the Student Council decided to focus their work on the Animal Welfare Institute and Environmental Defense Fund.  The Animal Welfare Institute was established in 1951 with the goal of promoting the humane care of animals. The Environmental Defense Fund was established in 1967 with the goal of protecting the environment.  During the week of February 11-15 the Student Council is asking for small monetary donations for their fundraiser. Any amount is appreciated. Donations can be deposited in containers in the classrooms. Thank you

PAWS Book Collection

Please help P.A.W.S. Preschool Collect 1,000 Books !

The Preschool At Wellesley Schools (P.A.W.S.) is starting the process of developing a 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program! The goal of the program is to provide families with easy and convenient access to hundreds of high-quality children’s books, of all different genres and titles, in order to ensure students have the best advantages and access to the many benefits of reading prior to entering kindergarten.

They need our help in order to make this dream a reality!  From now until April vacation, we will be collecting new and gently used children’s books for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Project at P.A.W.S.! As you and your friends, neighbors, and relatives start to do spring cleaning, or begin to tidy your homes and are ready to say goodbye to books that don’t serve your family any more, please bring your books to school and place them in the box in the hall marked 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.

They will take board books, ABC books, nursery rhymes, fairy tales, song books, fiction books, nonfiction books, paperback, hard cover, counting books, shape books, any books!!

Thank you in advance for helping with this project, and please pass the word along to your friends or to your social media groups! The goal is to collect 1,500 books by April vacation!

THE SCIENCE FAIR IS Sunday from 2:30-4:00!

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

It’s time to send in your Box Tops!  One class from grades K-2 and one class from grades 3-5 will earn an extra recess for collecting the most Box Tops! Our next official submission deadline is Friday, March 1st, so please clip Box Tops from the products you already purchase for your household and send them in via backpack in an envelope or baggie. Be sure to label with your name and/or classroom! If you have already sent in Box Tops since the last classroom contest and remembered to include your name or classroom, you will receive credit for this new contest. Every unexpired Box Top is worth 10 cents and that adds up so quickly for our school! Take a look through your kitchen cabinets and pantry and you just might find something with a Box Top on it.  For a complete list of all participating products, please visit www.boxtops4education.com.  Let’s see how many Box Tops we can collect for Fiske this month!

Robots made of recyclable material

What is the Fisketastic Day of Play? On Wednesday, March 6th  Fiske will be hosting a day of play for K-5 students. Students will be spending the day in collaborative groups making and creating using recyclable materials. On Wednesday, March 6th, students will need to bring one grocery bag filled with clean, recycled items to school. All supplies are required to be clean recycled materials. Items should not be bigger than the top of a students classroom desk. Please do not do any construction before coming to school.

If you are willing to donate packing tape, please have your child bring a roll to school on March 5th. Thank you for your contributions!

To make this day a success we will need 2-3 volunteers per classroom to help assist with the “construction” process (cutting cardboard, etc.) during both the first creating/building block from 8:45-9:45, as well as the second creating/building block from 10:15-11:15 (clean-up help will also be needed during this second block).
