Traffic Safety Concerns
Safety is always at the front of our minds when it comes to our students.There is a growing concern that our arrival and dismissal plans are not as safe as they could be if everyone worked together.Here are some tips on how you can help to make sure that ALL children are safe;
-
Do not park on Hastings Street in front of Fiske or P.A.W.S. When cars park in these areas, it can create challenges for buses and other vehicles trying to pass and make it harder for drivers to see pedestrians.
-
Do not park on either side of the corner of Sheridan Street and Hastings Street. We have received multiple concerns about visibility in this area. Parked cars can make it difficult for vehicles to enter the car line safely and can create obstacles for buses.
-
If you are walking, cross at the designated crosswalks where there are crossing guards or Fiske staff members.Crossing between cars on Cedar Street or Hastings Street can be unsafe, as drivers may not be expecting pedestrians outside of marked crosswalks. If you’re crossing Cedar Street, please be sure to use the crosswalk where our fantastic crossing guard, Mrs. Lyons, is there to assist.
In short, if you are walking to school, cross at the staffed crosswalks. If you are driving, use the carline.This will truly make it safer for all. Thank you
