What is a Literacy Lab Classroom?
Literacy Learning Lab Classrooms are classrooms that serve as “learning labs” for teachers as well as children in the school. In these classrooms the teacher can try out new reading and writing instructional techniques, or refine existing practice, in a risk-free environment. Wellesley colleagues have the opportunity to observe lab teachers teaching reading and writing lessons, which serve as a jumping off point for further in-depth discussions about literacy teaching practices . We are excited to have Literacy Lab classrooms at Fiske!
Halloween Parade
Parents, guardians and friends, please join us for our annual Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31st at 9:00 a.m. We will be hosting the parade on our new route around the Fiske playground fields. Fiske’s Student Council members will be leading the parade. Students may wear a costume and walk with their class in a large circular path around the fields. We will have a special section of the field setup for you to be able to see all the children.
In an effort to enhance safety, students are not allowed to wear masks, make-up or bring props or weapons for their costumes. Students can wear their costumes to school, but must change after the parade.
Please inform your child’s classroom teacher if your child will not be participating in the parade. Ms. Verret will be hosting students in the library and making a fun Fall craft.
Come Celebrate Wellesley’s 50th Anniversary!
Please join us as Wellesley METCO welcomes Dr. Ted Landsmark. Dr. Landsmark holds degrees in law and environmental design from Yale University and a doctorate in American Studies from Boston University. His keynote speech, an exploration on the role of education in combating income inequality, will be followed by a panel of METCO alumni from each decade who will reflect upon their time in Wellesley. This evening promises to be a powerful and historic examination of Wellesley METCO’s early days and the program’s lasting impact on its participants and the wider community. A brief time for questions and answers will follow.

Please send in those Box Tops! We need them!
Dear Fiske Families,
Did you know Fiske participates in the Box Tops for Education Program? Clipping Box Tops is an easy and fun way to help our school earn cash! Every Box Top you send in is worth 10 cents for Fiske–it may seem like a small amount, but it really adds up quickly! Box Tops can be found on hundreds of products including Kleenex, Ziploc, General Mills cereals, Lysol, Annie’s, Green Giant, Hefty, Yoplait, Land O’Lakes, Mott’s, Old El Paso and more! For a complete list of participating products, please visit http://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/participating-products.
Please look for the collection sheet that went home via backpack last week. Box Tops can be glued or taped on the sheet (please, no staples) OR you can simply send in your Box Tops in a plastic baggie or envelope. The Box Tops do NOT have to be precisely trimmed–just make sure the expiration date and product code is not cut off. You may also find Bonus Box Tops certificates on many products–so don’t forget to send in those as well! However, please do not send in expired Box Tops as we will not receive credit for them.
Many thanks to all who have sent in Box Tops since school started–we already have collected over 500 of them this month! This year our goal is to earn $1,000 for Fiske. I know we can reach and maybe even surpass this goal by working together. Every Box Top counts!
Thanks again!
