Fiske Families,

Every week I have the pleasure of visiting the classrooms at Fiske. It is a joy to see children grow both socially and academically over the school year. This week I was able to join the fifth grade while learning about fractions, the fourth grade exploring nonfiction, the third grade read their persuasive essays, the second grade participate in exercise stations in fitness and health, the first grade talk about their reading and the Kindergarten learning new songs in music. Your children are growing every day and it is a pleasure to see their progress.

Hour of Code

Many Fiske students participated in the Hour of Code on Thursday, December 8th. The annual Hour of Code is organized by our Instructional Technology Specialist, Amy Jankins, and Code.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting computer science in education. Code.org provides a variety of hour long student guided tutorials. Students were excited to participate in this coding activity and expressed interest in learning more about coding. Thank you Amy Jankins for organizing the Hour of Code for our students.

Gearing up for Winter Recess

The snow and frigid weather are here! Please remember to send your children in with boots, snow pants, hats, mittens and a coat. It’s very helpful if clothing items are marked with your child’s name. If you are in need of any of these items please contact our social worker, Sara Berenson at berensons@wellesleyps.org.

Three Important Reminders!

1.School Visitors

To ensure the safety of our students, all school visitors must enter through the main entrance of the school and sign in at the office. There are no exceptions to this safety rule. Beth Watson will give all visitors a yellow visitor’s pass when they check in at the office. If visitors are in the building without a pass they will be asked to get one from the main office.

2. Hastings Street Parking

Please do not park on Hastings Street during arrival and dismissal. Parking on Hastings Street makes it difficult for two way traffic to flow safely during dismissal. If you would like to get out of your car to pick up your child then please park in the lower parking lot.

3. Car Line

The car line is moving along. Please be mindful that the car line is a “live” line. This means caregivers must stay in their car and drive to the end of the circle. Once all cars are stopped, children are instructed to walk to their cars. Do not pass or pull around cars in car line as this creates an unsafe situation for Fiske children and faculty.

These are very important rules that are in place to keep all children safe at Fiske. Thank you for adhering to these safety rules.
