Dear Fiske Families,

We certainly had a Fisketastic Day of Play on Wednesday! It was amazing to see the planning, teamwork and building that each child was involved in to make their creations. At the end of the day there were dog houses, robots, jetpacks, hockey rinks, forts, basketball nets, and much more leaving the school. The pride in each child’s face was electrifying. On Thursday I had the opportunity to speak with the fourth and fifth grade student council who reflected on their planning, replanning and building of their creations. Growth Mindset was definitely seen throughout the day.

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who worked with the children to help them execute their plans. Walking through the halls the sound of tape being dispensed was humming throughout the building. Thank you to all of the Fiske teachers and staff for making the Fisketastic Day of Play happen. A final thank you to our custodians for making sure that all unused materials were recycled. The entire day was a collaborative effort and showed the incredible strength of working together as a community.

A very special thank you to Cherry Poulicakos who coordinated the Fisketastic Day of Play volunteers, while simultaneously organizing our third session of the Fiske After School Enrichment Program. Both programs could not have happened without her incredible dedication.

Here are some wonderful samples of the creations made on during our special day.

Robot Doghouse Fort

Today the second grade presented a school assembly on the importance of cooperation. The students demonstrated some cooperative games friends can play and shared ideas of how to make all friends feel included. At the end of the assembly the students shared the story Swimmy by Leo Lionni. This is a story of how many little fish worked together so they could swim safely in the ocean. It was a wonderful reminder of the importance of cooperation in our daily lives.
