“Honor the leap as well as the landing.” Shannon Donovan-Monti
Fiske Families,Wednesday night was the annual Fiske World Heritage Night. The decorations, food, and dancing were fabulous! It felt like we were traveling the world with our Fiske families. Throughout the evening, we were served treats such as vegemite spread, steamed dumplings, boiled turnips, sweet baklava, and much more. After having food from all over the world, we were entertained with dances from India and martial arts demonstrations. Thank you to Rimi Chaudhuri and Manisha Sethi for coordinating this incredible night that showcased the cultures and traditions that are a part of our diverse community.
Pictured here are two of our own Fiske students, Reina Chaudhuri and Anshika Chadda.
First Grade AssemblyToday the first grade students presented a community assembly that was the culmination of their social studies unit on community helpers. Our first grade reporters interviewed Fiske teachers and staff about the work they do and how they help our community. After sharing the community movie, the students reminded us of ways to follow the Fiske Fundamentals; Fair, Inclusive, Safe, Kind, and Encouraging.
At the conclusion of our first grade assembly, our 4G students shared a community project they are engaged into raise money for clean water in Sudan. Here is some information from 4G regarding the project:The students in 4G shared the book A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. The story recounts the true story of Salva Dut, a boy separated from his family at age 11. Salva endured many hardships as he walked into Ethiopia and later Kenya, seeking refuge. Salva and many other Lost Boys of Sudan eventually made their way to the United States. Salva now runs a foundation called Water for South Sudan. His group drills water wells for remote Sudanese villages. These water wells change entire communities for the better. The fourth graders were moved by Salva’s story and they are beginning a fundraising campaign. All proceeds will be sent to help Salva’s efforts. More information will be sent home next week.We will keep you apprised of our progress and thank you in advance for your support. Thank you 4G for organizing this incredible fundraising opportunity.
