Dear Bates Families,

Thank you to our generous PTO and parents for an outstanding Teacher Appreciation Week last week.  The faculty and staff enjoyed a delicious lunch, morning coffees by Expresso Dave, a candy bar, flowers and many thoughtful notes from students about how much they appreciate the Bates teachers.  We are so very grateful to our parents and PTO for all they do for us and our students.

Did you know that the Bates School cafeteria recycling program includes a food donation table for students who wish to donate uneaten food from school lunches?  Instead of being thrown away, the extra food will donated each week to the Wellesley Food Pantry.  This program was started by the Bates Student Council two years ago and is now refined and expanding to other schools.  Bates is proud to be a leader for our district in food waste diversion efforts.  If you would like to be a part of this effort and help deliver food to the Food Pantry, please use this Food Pantry delivery sign up link.  The Food Pantry accepts donations on Monday mornings.  Nancy Braun, former Bates parent, would be happy to meet with anyone who would like to know more about how this works.

The Bates School would like parent feedback on student use of Dreambox.  Please take a few minutes to fill out this short survey by Friday, May 25:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LCTXCGX

Thank you.

The coming weeks at Bates include many exciting events.  Please mark your calendars for:

  • Wednesday, May 23 at 8:45 in the gym: Spring Concert featuring the grade 5 chorus, grade 3 students on recorders and the Bates orchestra and band
  • Monday, May 28: No School for Memorial Day
  • Friday, June 1: Field Day
  • Tuesday, June 19: A Fond Farewell to Bates Fifth Graders at 5:30 p.m. in the gym
  • Wednesday, June 20: last day of school (dismissal at 12:00)

Have a great rest of the week.

Warm regards,

Toni Jolley
