Dear HunneBates,

Thank you to our amazing PTO for a fabulous Pumpkin Fair last Saturday!  It takes a village to make the Pumpkin Fair a fun and successful event for the HunneBates community, and we are very grateful.

STEAM Week

We had an exciting STEAM week, with activities at every grade and on Wednesday an all school assembly, all focused on sustainability.  Perhaps your child mentioned Wellesley Police Chief Jack Pilecki’s visit to our all school assembly.  He shared some of the sustainability efforts the WPD is making.  I’ve enjoyed hearing from some of our students about additional efforts they are excited to make at Bates to reduce, reuse and recycle.  You can learn about other STEAM events in our community here.

The HunneBates Halloween Parade

On October 31 we will have a Halloween Parade starting at 8:45.  Below are some important details:

  • Families are invited to come to watch the parade.

  • Students who wish to come in costume should wear their costume to school over clothes.  Students will take off their costumes after the parade.  Students are also welcome to walk in the parade without a costume.

  • Students who do not wish to participate in the parade can opt to join fun activities in the gym.  Please notify your child’s teacher if this is the plan for your child.

  • Costumes must be appropriate for a young audience.  Masks are not allowed but minimal face paint is ok.

  • If you plan to join us, please do not park in front of the school on Elmwood Road or in the front loop.  You may watch the parade from any side of the building, as students will parade around the building twice.  We ask that adults please stand off of the sidewalk so students have plenty of space to walk.

Finally, I look forward to seeing you in the building for conferences in the next few weeks.  If you have not yet signed up for a conference with your child’s teacher, please take time to do so.  Please also note that on Tuesday, November 1 students will be dismissed at 12:00 for teacher conferences.

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,

Toni Jolley
