Dear HunneBates,

We held our October Community Meeting on Wednesday.  Kudos to our fifth grade student council who presented their first term projects.  One group shared their plan for the all-school Cozy Day, which was a huge success.  A second group interviewed our hard working custodians Mr. Hurley and Mr. Regis.  They urged everyone to help our custodians in every way we can.  A third group developed a project to inform the community on the importance of keeping Bates clean, both inside and out.  Student council projects are designed and implemented by our fifth graders, with the goal of making a difference for our school.  As a finale the whole school sang the song Que Hora Es? which was a huge hit!

As a reminder, on Monday we will hold our Halloween parade at 8:45.  Some important details:

  • Families are invited to come to watch the parade.

  • Students who wish to come in costume should wear their costume to school over clothes.  Students will take off their costumes after the parade.  Students are also welcome to walk in the parade without a costume.

  • Students who do not wish to participate in the parade can opt to join fun activities in the gym.  Please notify your child’s teacher if this is the plan for your child.

  • Costumes must be appropriate for a young audience.  Masks are not allowed but minimal face paint is ok.

  • If you plan to join us, please do not park in front of the school on Elmwood Road or in the front loop.  You may watch the parade from any side of the building, as students will parade around the building twice.  We ask that adults please stand off of the sidewalk so students have plenty of space to walk.

PTO Meeting Wednesday, November 2

On Wednesday, November 2 I will join the Bates PTO meeting at 8:45 and will share and discuss the Bates MCAS scores.

Device Take-Home Permission

If you have not done so already, please sign the device take-home permission form in PowerSchool.  An email was sent to every family on 10/20 with information about this permission, which allows students to take home their iPads as assigned by their teacher.

Finally, please note the extra early release day on Tuesday next week.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,

Toni
