So it’s been an interesting winter – something like here comes the snow, time to remove the snow and repeat, often. Personally, I like the snow, playing in it with kids, but this much is too much.
Of course, we’ve all heard Dr. Lussier’s calls (five times now) canceling school and reminding us to be safe. These calls are often met with the cheers of children hoping to have some fun at home or in the snow. I know at the Colannino household, we’ve run the gambit of child-friendly activities from arts and crafts to baking cookies to then saying to 10-year-old Joseph, “Hey, grab a shovel and help out!” And so it continues this coming weekend with more snow in the forecast. I wish you a safe and happy vacation week and am jealous if you are going somewhere warm.
Some quick school updates:
Two more staff members, Jenn Eramo and Jennifer Brophy, have welcomed happy and healthy babies into the world. Mrs. Eramo, an English as Second Language teacher, delivered Isabella Rose on February 2 and kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Brophy brought Emma Jane into the world just yesterday, on February 12. I wish them well as they both spend time at home with their newborns.
Staffing changes due to maternity leaves have included, our building assistant Sara Biondo taking over for third-grade teacher Lizzy Floyd, who gave birth to baby June at the beginning of last month; Mia Simensi is our new building assistant; Kristen Ferraro has taken over for Mrs. Brophy, and I hope to find Mrs. Eramo’s long term substitute over the February break. We also welcome Jennifer Maley, as our new grade one reading interventionist.
The 14th Annual Fiske Multicultural Celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 5:30-7:45 at Wellesley Middle School. This is a wonderful Fiske tradition, in which families serve food from their country of origin, learning stations about countries are on display and multicultural performances follow. I encourage all Fiske families to attend and if you can help out with set up, please contact parent, Arti Kelkar at

Work for our school renovation project slated to begin on June 23 has not been delayed by our five snow days. In fact, subcontractors will be in the building next week doing some prep work, dropping off tools and supplies as well as carving out a meeting space in our basement. There’s a lot on the schedule this summer including the renovation of the teachers’ room into the front office and vice versa, creating a larger cafeteria space, new plumbing, HVAC and book cases/mill work in classrooms. Mrs. Watson, custodial staff and I will not be at Fiske this summer as the school will be closed and only available for renovation workers.
Again enjoy your winter break!
Sincerely,
Anthony Colannino
Principal
