Fiske Families,

The Fiske Falcons are off and running with the 2016-2017 school year! I have visited classes, lunches, and recesses and observed the smiling faces of your children. We are all looking forward to a Fisketastic year!

This morning the Fiske Falcons had our first assembly focused on taking chances and stretching our brains. The children watched a video of the book, The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We discussed how the main character, Vashi, felt at the beginning of the book and how she stretched her brain throughout the story. We then viewed Brain Jump with Ned the Neuron. This video explained how our brains grow as we learn from our mistakes. These are lessons that will be reinforced throughout the year.

The Fiske community prides themselves by embracing the Growth Mindset. Mindset by Carol Dweck and/or Grit by Angela Duckworth are wonderful resources to learn more about what it means to have a “growth mindset” and to persevere to reach success.

Congratulations to our Social Worker, Sara Berenson. She is now full-time in the district and will be spending more time with us at Fiske. All families are welcome to contact Sara directly at berensons to discuss any needs or to get support in connecting with community resources.

A few quick reminders

School arrival begins at 8:15 a.m. Please do not drop your child off before that time as there are no adults supervising the playground before 8:15 a.m. The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. so please make every effort to have your child to school on time.

Although we love our 4 legged friends, to assure the safety of all, there are no dogs allowed on the Fiske campus during school hours. This is a district policy that was approved by the School Committee Service animals are allowed under the provision of Animals in the Classroom Policy.

Car Line

The car line is off to a great start. Please remember to stay in your car and move to the end of the circle. Please do not pass or pull around cars in carline. Carline signs for dashboards will be sent home next week. Please put your sign in the front window of your car so it can be easily seen.

A Note from our PTO:

The Fiske Monday Memo is sent via email every Monday at 6 a.m. It contains important dates, reminders & information pertinent to Fiske & local events.
