Fiske Families,

This week I have had the pleasure of visiting all of the classrooms! I had the opportunity to participate in math, reading, writing, library, Fitness & Health, music and art. Children are quickly learning the daily routines and expectations of their classrooms while engaging in deep thinking. Also during my visits this week I saw 3R attend their first library class, 2M and 2K/F write about saying goodbye to summer and hello to fall, 4G create heart maps to inspire their writing, and numerous classes participating in the Week of Inspirational Math (WIM).

Many classrooms have been participating in activities from the Week of Inspirational Math. This program was created by Jo Boaler, professor of mathematics education at Stanford University and author of Mathematical Mindsets. The Week of Inspirational Math embraces the Growth Mindset research and applies these ideas to mathematical thinking. To learn more about brain research and math please take a few minutes to view this Jo Boaler video.

A few quick reminders

School arrival begins at 8:15 a.m. Please do not drop your child off before 8:15 as there are no adults supervising the playground before 8:15 a.m. The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. Please make every effort to have your child arrive at school on time.

Back to School Night is on Wednesday, September 14th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. The schedule for the night is as follows:

  • 6:30-7:00 Kindergarten – Grade 2 parents/guardians are invited to visit their child’s classroom.

  • 7:00-7:15 All parents/guardians are invited to the gym to meet with the Principal, specialists and PTO.

  • 7:15-7:45 Grade 3-5 parents/guardians are invited to visit their child’s classroom.

Please remember that Back to School Night is a time for parents/guardians to meet your child/children’s teacher/s and learn about the expectations for the classroom. Teachers will not be able to meet with individual parents. We look forward to seeing you all during this informative night.

Car Line

We encourage drivers to participate in the car line in the upper parking lot when dropping off or picking up Fiske students. Please DO NOT park in the upper parking lot during arrival or dismissal. Cars pulling out of parking spots, while students are getting in and out of cars in car line, create a dangerous situation for everyone involved in the car line process. If you would like to park at dismissal, then please drive down to the lower parking lot and walk up the new path to meet your child at the flagpole.

While in the car line, please remember to stay in your car and drive to the end of the circle. Do not pass or pull around cars in car line. Car line signs for dashboards were sent home earlier this week. Please put your sign (labeled with your last name) in the front window of your car so it can be easily seen.

A Note from our PTO:
