Fiske Families,
It has been another busy week at Fiske. On Wednesday we had an all school assembly that focused on Growth Mindset and the power of yet. Several teachers read the book So Many Smarts by Dr. Micheal Genhart. This book stressed the many different types of smarts people have and the importance of growing these smarts. The students also watched a video called The Power of Yet sung by C.J. Luckey. At Fiske we continue to stress the importance of perseverance and learning from mistakes. Please take a moment this weekend to ask your child about their Growth Mindset and the power of yet.
Picture Day
Picture day is on Friday, October 11th. Several people have asked about sibling pictures. If you would like your children to have siblings picture taken you can preorder the pictures by filling out an additional photo form. Please call or email the office to have a second photo order form sent home with your child. Return the form to the front office before Friday. On photo day your children will be called down to the office when the sibling pictures are ready to be taken.
Phones and Smartwatches
Recently it has been noticed that several children are wearing smartwatches and/or bringing phones to school. A smartwatch is any watch that can receive or send text messages or phone calls. Please remind your children that they are not allowed to have phones or smartwatches during the school day. If a child brings one of these devices to school they will be asked to place it in their locker. Please review our Insider’s Guide to Fiske Technology Guidelines included below. These guidelines can also be found on page 9 of the Insider’s Guide to Fiske..
Student Cell Phone and Smartwatch Guidelines:
For reasons of distraction, safety, and security, smartphones, smartwatches and other electronic devices must be put away during the school day with no exceptions. These items are not considered “put away” if they are in the pockets of jackets, coats, or pants. Parents wishing to reach students during school hours are asked to call the main office and leave a message for the student, or ask that the student come to the office and return the call. Text messaging during the school day is prohibited and is not allowed even between the student and a parent/guardian. Taking pictures, recording videos or recording conversations without consent at any time during the school day is strictly prohibited. In the event that a student’s cell phone or any other electronic device is visible during the school day, the following procedure will be followed:
If a cell phone or smartwatch is used in school:
First time- The principal will hold the cell phone or smartwatch for the rest of the day and the student will pick it up in the office. Parents will be notified.
Second time– The principal will hold the cell phone or smartwatch for the rest of the day and the parent will be asked to pick it up at their convenience.
Third time- The principal will hold the cell phone or smartwatch for the rest of the day and meet with the parents to develop a plan.
For the WPS District Acceptable Use Policy – Technology, please refer to SECTION 4 in the Wellesley Public Schools Elementary Student Handbook, “District Policies, Legal Rights and Responsibilities.”

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Did you know that Fiske participates in the Box Tops for Education Program? Box Tops can be found on hundreds of products that we buy every day. Take a look through your kitchen cabinets and pantry – you just might find something with a Box Top on it. Box Tops do not have to be precisely trimmed, but be sure the expiration date is showing. Box Tops for Education is also moving digital and offers options to scan your receipts directly into their app to give Fiske credit – it’s easy! Watch for more information on digital submissions in November; save your receipts or scan them through the app in the meantime! For a complete list of all participating products, please visit https://www.boxtops4education.com/Participating-Products-Page. Every unexpired Box Top is worth 10 cents and that adds up so quickly for our school.
It’s time to SEND IN your Box Tops! One class from grades K-2 and one class from grades 3-5 will earn an EXTRA RECESS REWARD for collecting the most Box Tops! Our next official submission deadline is October 30st, so please clip Box Tops from the products you already purchase for your household and send them in via backpack mail in an envelope or baggie. Be sure to label with your name and/or classroom so your class gets the credit! If you have already sent in Box Tops since the last classroom contest and remembered to include your name or classroom, you will receive credit for this new contest. Every clip counts! Let’s see how many Box Tops we can collect for Fiske this month!
Thank you for your participation and support!
