Dear Fiske Families,

It is hard to believe all that has changed in the last week.  Over thirty years ago I started my career in education and it has consistently brought me great joy to work with children and colleagues each day.  This week felt very different working from the McGregor kitchen while teaching a high schooler and encouraging a college freshman. On a positive note, my two dogs, Chloe and Nova, are much happier their family is home.

As educators and families, we have all changed direction to create remote learning opportunities for our children.  In The Superintendent’s letter today, Dr. Lussier, mapped out the guidelines for remote learning. Dr. Lussier writes, ”  The attached overview provides a detailed explanation of what remote learning will look like at each level in WPS and how parents and students can access these web-based resources. The WPS Remote Learning website will be live beginning tomorrow, March 20th, at 8AM and can be accessed through our WPS website.

This morning I had the opportunity to hold our first Fiske Staff meeting via Google Hangouts. Starting Friday, March 20th, the Fiske teachers are ready to connect with your children each school day with a morning message that encourages your child/children to engage in the learning activities.  I encourage you to reach out to your teachers, or myself, via email if you need assistance with the new WPS Remote Learning Website or have other questions. As always, we are here for our Fiske community.

Please note that in the Superintendent’s letter , Dr. Lussier, described the current WPS Meal Program for qualified students. Please fill out the application here if you are not enrolled in the National School Lunch Program and think you may qualify.  Completed applications can be mailed to the Wellesley Public Schools, 40 Kingsbury Street, Wellesley, MA 02481 Attn: Business Office.  If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Mahr at cmahr@wellesleyma.gov.

While the Coronavirus was one that in the fall we could not have imagined, we are now managing this new normal.  Please keep safe and healthy and follow the Town of Wellesley Health Department’s guidance around keeping healthy.  I truly miss greeting your children every day at school and am looking forward to the day when we see each other again.  For now, please tell your children we miss them and are just an email away.

Sincerely,

Rachel McGregor
