Blue Fiske Falcon

Dear Fiske Families,

Recently a teacher shared a student’s poem with me, I think these words capture what many are feeling.

I Miss

I miss going to the cozy library,

I miss the vacations we can’t go on,

I miss the long summer days when we could go to the beach,

I miss when we could watch the teachers teach,

But now,

We have zoom,

And we can watch flowers bloom,

So there’s still a little happiness,

But we can still be sad too.

Another week of remote learning has passed, thank you  for your efforts to have your children participate in this mode of  learning.  Please remember that we are all doing our best.  What that looks like for each of us may be different. What is most important is that we are taking care of ourselves and our families.    With that in mind, there are activities and dates coming up for families. Please read through each Friday Fiske News to be informed of upcoming dates.

Evening Chat with the Principal

Last week we had our first Parent/Guardian Evening chat with the Principal.  The next sessions of these will be:

  • K-2 parents/guardians-Tuesday, June 2 from 6:00 -7:00 p.m.

  • Grade 3-5 Parents/guardians – Thursday, June 4 from 6:00-7:00 pm

Please be aware that these sessions are for parents and guardians.

Kindergarten Class of 2020-2021 Parent Orientation

Each year we organize an evening Kindergarten Parent Orientation.  Due to the Coronavirus we have had to adapt these plans.  The new Kindergarten Parent/Guardian orientation will be held on Monday, June 1 at 6:00 pm via Zoom conference.  The Zoom conference code will be sent 1 hour before the meeting.  The Fiske Kindergarten Team looks forward to welcoming our new Kindergarten families.

A Message from our School Nurse

With our current learning  and home  quarantine, children are spending more time using computers, ipads and other screen based devices.  Please see the attached document from our nurses regarding eye health in regards to screen time.

Teacher-Family Check-ins

The end of the year is quickly approaching.  With that in mind we are putting forth a plan for parent/teacher check-ins. Maintaining connections between school staff and students remains paramount to our remote learning efforts. Beginning next week, teachers will reach out to parents to offer each family the opportunity to participate in a teacher-family check-in. Check-ins will last approximately 15 minutes and may happen via videoconference and/or telephone calls. The teacher-family check-ins are opportunities to talk about students’ social, emotional, and/or academic wellness. Check-ins also serve as an end-of-year communication allowing teachers and parents to wrap up the school year and attend to any critical next steps in service of students.

A note from our School Psychologist

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As remote learning and the stay-at-home guidance due to the Covid-19 pandemic continues, the level of stress for all of us continues to rise. For many adults and children, continuing to move forward positively has become more challenging. Please remember that you can reach out to me at any time if you need support or resources, or want to problem-solve and brainstorm solutions together. Although we are apart, we really are all in this together and I’m here to help.

All the best,

Sharon Grossman, Fiske School Psychologist
