Blue Fiske Falcon

Fiske Families,

A huge Fisketastic thank you to Becca Sisitsky, Sheila Daley, Megan LeBlanc and all the volunteers who organized and ran the winter book fair.  Children were thrilled with the book choices! The Tuesday book fair evening was well attended and lots of books were purchased. Thank you for supporting our library! Enjoy your reading!

Come join us on Wednesday, December 19th at 8:45 a.m. for the Fiske Winter concert.  Join us to hear winter tunes from the orchestra, band and chorus. We look forward to seeing families and friends at the concert.

On Wednesday the Fiske students gathered for an assembly on the power of mistakes.  The book read was The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes by Mark Pett and Gary Rubenstein.  This is a story of Beatrice Bottomwell who never made mistakes.  Until one day…she made a mistake. The story demonstrates the difficulties of trying to be perfect and the joy of learning from mistakes.  Students continued the conversations back in their classrooms.

On Wednesday 95 students participated in a chilly Walk to School Day.  The winners of the golden sneaker and free Fitness and Health class are…1K! Congratulations to all our walkers.

What is Fiske Cares?

Fiske Cares is a Parent-volunteer Committee that focuses on assisting and supporting ALL Fiske families in need of help at any given time.  For Fiske families facing an extraordinary event such as injury, surgery, birth, etc., our parent volunteers support families by providing meal deliveries and/or carpool rides.  For Fiske families needing help with basic necessities, our committee raises funds specifically to help provide fresh groceries, diapers, gas and winter clothing. We have a dedicated social worker at Fiske who assists dozens of under-privileged families and relies on Fiske Cares to provide basic necessities. (Fiske Cares does not receive any funding from the PTO.)

How can you support Fiske families in need of help?  Simply email fiskecares@gmail.com to be included on the Fiske Cares distribution list!

You will be informed about our community’s specific needs throughout the year, including opportunities to:

  • Donate snacks for Fiske Cares community events

  • Donate gently-used baby items, winter clothing/gear, etc. needed by our most vulnerable Fiske families

  • Provide carpool rides for Fiske students who do not have a ride to school during cold winter mornings (especially when temperatures go below 25 degrees)

  • Organize Fiske Cares’ fundraisers (Gift Card Drive, Bake Sale, etc.)!  Our goal is to raise $3,000 in proceeds, which are strictly used toward basic necessities.

Any questions or comments?  Please email Carol Tham (ctham22@yahoo.com).  THANK YOU for supporting our Fiske community!!
