Fiske Families,
What an exciting week at Fiske! In the cafeteria the Kindergarten students are learning their lunch routines. First, third and fifth grade students are diving into their independent reading. Yesterday while visiting second grade classrooms, students were completely immersed in writing their narrative stories. Fourth graders are building community through playing a variety of cooperative games in Fitness and Health. Just this morning, while walking down the hall, I heard beautiful singing coming from the music room. The 5th grade chorus was practicing a song about snow days, please not yet, and they sounded BEAUTIFUL. It is amazing that we have been in school for just 12 days and it is as if we never left. Your children are truly wonderful to work with.

BOKS
BOKS (Build Our Kids’ Success) is starting on Tuesday, September 26th- Thursday, Nov. 9th. BOKS is a before school physical activity program designed to get elementary school aged children moving in the morning to have a more productive school day. In 2009, Kathleen Tullie from Natick read the book, Spark, by Dr. John Ratey. The book clearly set forth the research as to why kids should be active before school, and she was inspired to create a program at her children’s elementary school. Since fall 2009, BOKS has grown from one elementary school in Natick, Mass., to over 1,500 elementary schools in six countries in 2015. For more info, visit www.bokskids.org.
The goals of BOKS are:
· Start the morning with active play to jump start children’s brains and make them better equipped for learning.
· Increase opportunities for children to be physically active and gain nutritional knowledge; creating healthy, lifelong habits.
· Empower communities to collaborate and make a positive difference in children’s lives
It’s time we make difference and create a healthier generation of children. Don’t sit still, Active Kids = Active Minds. For more, go to www.bokskids.org.
The BOKS program cannot be run without parent volunteers. Please consider signing up to run some sessions at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084baeab22a20-boks6
Please see attachment for BOKS enrollment forms. Enrollment forms can be retruned to the front office.
