Hello Hardy Families…

Thank you to the many parent volunteers who made the book fair such a success.  The students were so excited to select their books and begin reading.  Hardy children have a love for reading and it shows!

The Wellesley Education Foundation, WEF is a tremendous support for the WPS.  In fact, we are lucky to have received a grant to support additional Social Thinking training and materials.  Lisa Goodman and Harriet Freedman have been using Social Thinking concepts over the years to support children’s social and emotional development and social skills.  We are excited to expand others’ knowledge so it can have a presence in a similar way to Open Circle. Four classroom teachers will attend a Social Thinking conference in October and materials for K to 5 classrooms consisting of books that support social thinking concepts and vocabulary will be purchased.

We are implementing a new safety measure as staff and visitors ring the buzzer to enter the building. You will now be asked to identify yourself and share your purpose for visiting the school.  Once visitors enter, they report to the office, sign in and receive a visitor badge. When visitors leave, they should report to the office, sign out and return the visitor badge.

We are always trying to improve the car pick up and we noticed that some folks do not have an identification card on the dash board.  If you do not have one, a staff member will ask you for your name so we can make you one.  Then, that identification card will go home with your child.

MCAS results for Wellesley students were sent out on Thursday, October 8th.  If you have any questions feel free to give me or your classroom teacher a call.  I will be holding an informational MCAS session (morning and evening) for parents to learn about MCAS within the next few weeks, (date and time to be determined).

Thank you to the Hardy parents, parents and concerned citizens who attended the Hardy, Hunnewell and Upham facilities presentation last week.  There will be another town wide presentation at the Wellesley Police Station in the Kingsbury Room on Wednesday October 14th at 7:00pm.

Sincerely,
Charlene Cook, Principal
