Dear Hardy families,

Highlights from the past week:

*We had a highly engaging Creative Arts and Sciences program- Water Rockets. Students had a “blast” while learning some scientific concepts.

*On Thursday, we had Field Day. Mr. Guzzi, our talented Fitness & Health teacher, planned a special day promoting physical fitness through fun and engaging activities.

Fourth graders having fun doing the potato sack relay!

Schedule this week

As a reminder, Wednesday is a full day. Thursday, our last day of school, is a half day (12 noon dismissal).

Staffing Updates

*First grade teacher Annie Bresnahan will unfortunately not be returning to Hardy next year. We are very sad to see Annie go and are appreciative for all of her hard work and dedication to the Hardy students.

*Kate Carrier will be teaching first grade next year.

*Felicia Moran, who will be returning from RLS, will be teaching second grade next year.

Clap Out & 5th grade moving on ceremony this week

On Tuesday morning (rain date Wednesday), we will be celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of our graduating fifth graders as they move on to middle school. Prior to the start of this program, we will be having a special clap out through the building. Kindergarten through fourth grade students, teachers, and staff will line the hallways of the Hardy School. Fifth graders will process through the building as the school shows their support and congratulatory sentiments through clapping. The fifth graders will then proceed outside where fifth grade parents will have the chance to clap for students as they proceed to the graduation ceremony, which will be taking place outside on the Hardy field. We look forward to showing support to the Hardy School class of 2021 in this special way!

Standards Based Report Cards

Michael M. LaCava, Interim Assistant Superintendent, has provided the following information about standards based report cards:

Dear K-5 Families,

As we move into our final week of the school year, I wanted to reach out and provide you with some important information and resources related to our Standards Based Report Card (SBRC). Report Cards will be available on the Parent Portal beginning on Thursday, June 17th at 12:00 p.m.

This will be the first year we have implemented the end of year SBRC so I wanted to resend some links and documents that I hope will be helpful.

Please remember, students are graded based on rigorous end-of-year standards.  We expect most students will be either progressing towards or meeting standards by June. The elementary curriculum is cyclical, so students not meeting a standard (not receiving an “M”)  on the SBRC in June will have opportunities to return to related concepts and skills moving forward.

Additionally, here are some helpful links related to the SBRC:

  1. Our SBRC website has many useful links and information regarding the SBRC. Please click HERE to go to the website.

  1. We created an FAQ document for families which you can find HERE.

  1. Paper copies of the report card are no longer provided by each school. The SBRC can be accessed using the Parent Portal.  Please click HERE for those directions.

In closing, I would like to thank you again for your continued support of our district and for being an important partner in your child’s education.  As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions at any time.

I hope you all have a wonderful end of school year and summer break.

Sincerely,

Michael M. LaCava, Interim Assistant Superintendent
Teaching and Learning

Special Thanks

*I want to thank all of the faculty & staff members for all their hard work and dedication, especially during this very challenging year. It is their commitment to our students, working tirelessly to help promote academic & social-emotional growth, that has helped students to be successful this year.

*I also want to thank all of the parents & guardians for their ongoing support this year. I especially want to thank the PTO for all their efforts. As a newcomer to Hardy, I have been so impressed with all the PTO has done to help meet the needs of our school. I am sincerely grateful!

Wishing you a safe and fun-filled summer vacation!

Respectfully yours,
Grant Smith
Principal
