Dear Hardy families,

Highlights from the past week:
*On Tuesday, we had Clyde, a therapy dog owned by School Council community representative Lisa Fico, visit the outside area of Hardy. Students enjoyed getting to spend time with this special visitor!

*On Friday, we had our School Spirit day for the month of January. It was great to see students wearing Hardy gear and red colored clothing to school!

CASEL competency for February
The CASEL competency that we will be focused on in February is self-management. Students will learn that self-management is the ability to manage one’s emotions, thoughts and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations. Students will also learn that when they use tools/strategies to manage their emotions, they can follow R.I.S.E. Through read-alouds, group activities and shared language, students will learn about self-management.

Hunnewell Swing Space Information
As many of you are aware, as part of the Hunnewell School construction project, there is an internal swing space plan that calls for each of the Hunnewell grade levels to be assigned to designated host schools in the district (host schools include Bates, Upham, Sprague and Hardy). It has been decided that Hardy will be hosting Hunnewell’s grade 3 next year (22-23 school year) and then grade 4 the following year (23-24 school year) as the same cohort of students moves up one grade level. This will consist of 2 sections of self-contained classrooms and will be distinct from the Hardy grade 3 and then grade 4 cohort of students. There are still many details that have yet to be determined, but we are looking forward to welcoming a part of the Hunnewell community to Hardy next year!

Important health reminders
In an effort to continue to promote practices that will contribute to a healthy school community, please be mindful of the following health reminders:

  • Get vaccinated and receive a booster if you are eligible;

  • Do not come to school if you exhibit any COVID-related symptoms, even if mild;

  • Wear a properly-fitting mask while indoors at school;

  • Wear a mask when you attend large indoor gatherings or participate in indoor activities, such as shopping, when you don’t know the vaccination status of those around you;

  • Practice social distancing where possible, particularly when not wearing a mask.

  • Use frequent hand washing

  • If you would like to provide consent for your child to participate in the WPS COVID-19 at home viral testing program but have not provided consent, please do so using this opt-in
