Dear Hardy families,

*On Wednesday, we had a webinar about the new Hardy School construction project. For parents that missed this event, a recording of this event will be posted to the school website and the project website at https://www.wellesleyhhu.org/hardy

*On Wednesday, in celebration of Lunar New Year, a group of third grade parents did a presentation for third grade students.

*On Friday, we had our monthly all-school meeting featuring our 2nd graders. The 2nd grade students taught us about the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and introduced the CASEL competency of social awareness (see more information below).

Staffing Update

We have hired Ms. Laura Johnson to serve as the long term substitute art teacher for the remainder of the school year. Laura most recently served as an art teacher in Scotland and has prior teaching experience in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Johnson to Hardy!

CASEL competency focus- social awareness

During the months of January and February, we are focused on social awareness. As part of this, students are learning that social awareness is defined as the ability to understand other people’s perspectives.

As we focus on Social Awareness at Hardy you may want to try the following suggestions at home to support this CASEL competency:

  • Identify ways as a family you show kindness to others and its positive impact

  • If a disagreement occurs, process the challenge to increase empathy and listening skills

  • Reflect on how those around you may feel

  • When reading a story together talk about the different perspectives the characters experience

  • Help those around you, whether it be a friend, family member, or someone in the community (i.e. consider volunteering)

Spirit Day

This upcoming Friday, we will have our next all-school Spirit Day. Students are invited to wear their Huskies or Hawks gear to school.

Have a great week!

Respectfully yours,
Grant Smith
Principal
