Hello Hardy

On Thursday, we had the Ground Breaking ceremony to celebrate the building of a new Hardy School!

Representative students participating in the event by holding the ceremonial shovels:

K student- Drady Pierkarski, 1st grader- Javen Wu, 2nd grader- Connor Liu, 3rd grader Molly Foley, 4th grader- Sophia Lisowsky, and 5th grader- Larry Lin

4th grader Mila Cukali shared a speech: “Hardy is Special to me…”

Here is the speech that Mila shared:

Hardy is special to me….

I came to Hardy School in second grade and I wasn’t the odd one out. I was accepted. I didn’t know how things worked or anything, but people took me in and made me feel included.

At Hardy, we learn independently and have partners a lot. My favorite subjects are reading and writing. Some kids have other favorites like math or science. One time in science we got to use wires and batteries and experiment until we could light a little lightbulb. That was really cool!

At Hardy we always have fun in different ways like doing crafts or having special days like Stuffed Animal Day, PJ Day, Crazy Hair Day or Field Day. Specialist teachers and specialist classes add fun to each week.

The teachers at Hardy always helped me when my friends and I have problems. There are classroom teachers, specialist teachers, and teaching assistants. They work together to help kids learn better. The teachers have been kind and caring and I haven’t met a teacher who hasn’t been like that.

Soon we will have a new school. Of course, the students to come will love Hardy, too!

Anti-Idling

Join Wellesley Green Schools and the Wellesley Police Department and other parents and students as we walk the car line at WPS (for Hardy, this will be on 4/28 from 2:30 pm- 3:00 pm) asking drivers to take a pledge to Go Idle Free in 2023!  We now know that over 30% of Wellesley’s GHG emissions come from transportation and that 30% of Wellesley’s traffic is school-related. Whether asking parents to sign the pledge or handing out magnets, together we can really make a difference!! Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Thank you!

What:  Go Idle Free With Me in 2023 Campaign

When/Where:  Our plan is to be at each school until the kids get out as we don’t want to disrupt the moving car line. Here is the Signup Genius:   https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0449ADA62FA75-goidle

When:   4/28 Hardy 2:30pm-3:00pm

Who:  Sponsored by Climate Action Committee, NRC, Police Department, Wellesley Green Schools, Sustainable Wellesley.  Although the campaign/pledge will be advertised throughout all town departments such as the Recreation Department, Health Department and others, our primary focus is the schools (it’s been determined that 30% of Wellesley’s traffic is school-related).

Mismatch Day

This upcoming Friday we will have our next School Spirit Day planned by our 5th graders. Students are invited to wear mis-matched clothing to school (examples- mismatched socks, mismatched shoes, polka dot/stripe, formal/casual).

Have a great week and a great upcoming April vacation!

Respectfully yours,
Grant Smith
Principal
