Hello Hardy

Highlight from the past week:
On Friday, we had an All-School Meeting led by our Kindergarteners. Students did a great job teaching the school about responsible decision-making.

CASEL competency focus for May/June- Responsible Decision Making

For the months of May and June, we are focused on the CASEL competency of responsible decision making. We are defining responsible decision making as learning how to make a reasoned judgment after analyzing information, data, and facts to help determine solutions for personal and social problems.

Tips for parents to help reinforce responsible decision-making:
Help children build responsible decision making skills by giving them lots of practice in a developmentally appropriate way.

For younger children, giving two choices and allowing them to pick one can be helpful.  As children get older, giving them more autonomy in the decision-making process is helpful.

Model your decision-making process by “thinking out loud” with your children.  Allow children input into the decisions that impact them.

As children get older, help them to think about how their decisions may impact others.  Ask questions like:

Are there any rules to consider when making this decision?
Are there other people to consider in this decision and how might it impact them?
Most importantly, as children learn, show confidence in their decision-making skills.  Helping children believe in their skills builds their self confidence, critical thinking and trust in themselves and their opinions.

Favorite Teams Spirit Day

We’ll have another 5th grade planned spirit day this upcoming Friday. Students are invited to wear their favorite jerseys and hats representing their favorite teams. We look forward to students showing off their team spirit!

Special Thanks

Thanks to the PTO for their generosity during Teacher Appreciation Week as they provided teachers with a delicious lunch on Wednesday. We appreciate your ongoing support!

Have a great week!

Respectfully yours,
